Hi Shrink Tape
Hi-Shrink Tape is a tough, ﬂexible, heat shrinkable polyester ﬁlm. When wrapped around an object and heated, Hi-Shrink Tape has the unique ability to shrink and apply pressure over the surface of composites. This simple method of pressure application is used to advantage in many industries such as electrical coils, advanced composites and aerospace and defence.
Hi-Shrink Tape is available uncoated (Type S) and release coated with a PTFE release coat (Type R)
Our polyester shrink ﬁlms are available in multiple thicknesses and shrink percentages. Dunstone can customize the shrink % from 0-20% in most of our ﬁlms. The products are oﬀered slit to width in standard sizes from 0.5” (12.5mm) to 2.5” (62.5mm) wide, and available on 1.5” (38mm) or 3.0” (76mm) ID cores.
212HT Hi-Shrink ETFE Tape
212HT is a ﬂexible, high performance ﬂuoropolymer release tape, which works well in a broad range of temperatures. It maintains its integrity and unique release properties at elevated temperatures and is ideal for cure cycles up to 356°F (180°C) where slight compaction force and eﬀective release are needed in combination. In addition, the tape exhibits elongation characteristics that make it eﬀective for wrapping and conforming over sharp corner radii and composite parts with non-uniform outside dimensions.
F Series Hi-Shrink Tape
The F-Series Hi-Shrink Tape products combine the high compaction forces of our polyester Hi-Shrink Tape with the high temperature release characteristics of DuPont™ Tedlar® polyvinyl ﬂuoride (PVF) coating. The compression force characteristics of our polyester based ﬁlms make them eﬀective and useful tools for consolidating and compressing composite parts in a variety of manufacturing processes. F-Series Hi-Shrink Tape is commonly used in applications where superior release characteristics are required in combination with higher compaction forces at elevated cure temps.
The tape has a fused PVF release layer on one side of the ﬁlm which is speciﬁcally designed to have zero transfer to the underlying composite part. The release properties of the high temperature coating combined with the non-transfer characteristics make it far superior to other release coated products, including silicone coated ﬁlms. The tape is available in two versions, 10% shrink (210F) and 20% shrink (220F).
Hi-Shrink Polyimide Tape 208X
Hi-Shrink Tape 208X is a heat shrinkable polyimide tape with higher temperature capabilities than any other shrinkable tape on the market today. Its primary application is to provide external compressive force to fully consolidate the higher cure temperature thermoplastic resin systems. The tape provides a simple and eﬀective means to produce an end product, often without the need for vacuum bagging or autoclave pressure.
Hi-Shrink Tape 208X is a modiﬁed polyimide ﬁlm that shrinks in the machine direction. The tape starts to shrink at approximately 70°C (155°F) and reaches its maximum shrink of 13% @ 350°C (660°F) . 208X is the highest temperature shrink ﬁlm available today for composite consolidation applications, and is used widely when dealing with PEEK, PPS, and other high temperature cure thermoplastic resin systems where consolidation pressures are required during cure. The MD shrink value of 8% is measured at 150C. 208X is unique in that it will continue to shrink and apply compaction force up to 350°C.
